Virtual Socioeconomic Workshops

BLM SLVFO is interested in hearing directly from members of the local communities about changes to the area, current economic conditions, and visions for the future and the role of public lands. The information gathered will provide a foundation for analysis of socioeconomic impacts for various alternatives for public land management when the SLVFO begins a revision of its land use plan in the coming years. The land use plan revision, once approved, will guide management decisions on BLM public lands within SLVFO for the next two or more decades.

Virtual workshops will be held on the following dates:

  • Workshop 1 – Tuesday, March 15, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

  • Workshop 2 – Wednesday, March 16, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

The same material will be presented at both meetings. Phone and internet participation options will be available – there is no option for in-person participation. Workshop materials will be available for download and in printed format available for pick-up at the SLVFO prior to the virtual meeting.

Issues for discussion at the workshops include but are not limited to:

  • How social and economic conditions have changed since the last land use planning effort in 1991;

  • The current social and economic conditions in the planning area;

  • The current role of public lands and federal mineral resources in the local economy;

  • Visions for the future of the regional economy and for local communities, and the role of public lands and federal resources in this vision.
