NORTHERN NEW MEXICO RIPARIAN, AQUATIC, AND WETLAND RESTORATION ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT VIRTUAL PUBLIC MEETING

Carson, Cibola, and Santa Fe National Forests and Kiowa Grassland

Welcome

Welcome to the Northern New Mexico Riparian, Aquatic, and Wetland Restoration Project EA Virtual Public Meeting

The United States Forest Service (Forest Service) is seeking comment on its EA analyzing the potential effects of restoration activities for riparian, aquatic, and wetland activities on the Carson, Cibola, and Santa Fe National Forests and the Kiowa National Grassland. Fifteen project categories are covered by this environmental assessment. Project-specific design criteria will be the basis for consistent implementation and effects analysis for the project categories and activities at the forest and site-specific scale.

The Forest Service will not hold any in-person public meetings on the Northern New Mexico Riparian, Aquatic, and Wetland Restoration Project EA as a direct result of the following: (1) The National Emergency declared by the President on March 13, 2020 in response to the coronavirus (COVID–19) pandemic in the United States; (2) the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations for social distancing and avoiding large public gatherings; and (3) Executive Orders related to COVID-19 issued by the state of New Mexico. In lieu of the in-person public meetings, the Forest Service has set up an interactive virtual public meeting website to share information, solicit comments on the draft EA, and provide a forum to answer relevant questions. The virtual public meeting can be accessed anytime through the project website.

In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Forest Service is preparing an environmental assessment (EA) for the project. The public had the opportunity to participate in the EA review process and provide input through a web-based virtual meeting room from May 1, 2020 to June 1, 2020, wherein specific written comments were accepted for 30 calendar days following publication of the legal notice in the Albuquerque Journal. Please visit the comments page for more details on submitting comments outside the scoping comment period.
