Welcome to the virtual public meeting website for the Lower San Acacia Reach Improvements Project (LSARI) Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS).

The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) is seeking public input on the Draft EIS for LSARI. The 45-day public comment period is open from November 28, 2025, through January 12, 2026. Reclamation is considering realigning a portion of the Rio Grande from approximately river mile (RM) 74 to RM 59.5 (project, proposed action).

Reclamation is the project proponent. The project area is within the Lower San Acacia Reach of the Middle Rio Grande in Socorro County, New Mexico. The focus of the Draft EIS is between the southern boundary of Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge at RM 74 (upstream end) and the Silver Canyon and Low Flow Conveyance Channel (LFCC) confluence with the Rio Grande at RM 54 (downstream end).

The Draft EIS is available here.

During the comment period, the public can provide input and participate through two in-person public meetings. These meetings will include an open house, presentation, and opportunities for the public to submit comments. Reclamation staff will be available to answer questions.

  • In-person meeting: January 7, 2026 from 5 to 7 p.m. MT at the Erna Fergusson Public Library,  3700 San Mateo Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM, 87110.

  • In-person meeting: January 8, 2026 from 5 to 7 p.m. MT at the Socorro Public Library, 401 Park St, Socorro, NM, 87801.

All public comments must be submitted/postmarked by January 12, 2026.
